There is no magic pill to reversing aging and going back to your youth in an instant.

With that said, science has now discovered that a protein called NANOG, may lead to something as close to reversing age-related skeletal muscle loss.

Here is the scoop.

Researchers at the University at Buffalo, NY have found that over-expression of NANOG, a protein can help reverse muscle gain.

A protein with the name of the fabled land of youth in Irish legend has been proven to successfully stop the aging of skeletal muscle cells by a research team led by the University at Buffalo.

The NANOG protein, which has its origins in Tír na nÓg, a location in Irish folklore associated with youth, beauty, and health, is the subject of the study, which was published in Science Advances.

The embryonic progenitors of muscle tissue known as myoblasts were overexpressed with NANOG by the researchers in a series of tests. Myoblasts that had reached senescence were no longer capable of proliferating or dividing.

The major characteristics of aging-related cellular depletion, such as autophagy, energy balance, genomic stability, nuclear integrity, and mitochondrial function, were all enhanced by overexpression.

NANOG, in particular, boosted the quantity of muscle stem cells in the muscles of mice that were prematurely aging. This showed that cellular aging could be reversed in the body without the need to reprogram cells into an embryonic pluripotent state, which is a typical procedure in stem cell therapy but has the potential to cause cancer.
